Three significant, groundbreaking projects will form the focus of the Institute’s work in the first three years:
· ‘Documenting Everyday Writing’, which will collect, research and archive key examples of everyday writing from the earliest times to the present day
· ‘Critical Writing’, which will both explore the best methods of teaching undergraduates the essential skills of reasoning and critical thinking necessary for a variety of careers, including politics and the law, and put these best practices into effect in the classroom
· ‘The Making of the Book’, a collaboration between artists, writers and the Small Craft Advisory Press to determine the creative potential of the form of the book
The Institute, launched in 2011, will be inaugurated in the Fall with a colloquium on ‘Writing in the World’, generously funded by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and open to all interested parties at FSU and in the local and regional community.
